The 49ers Frankenset... Page One

The Dodgers, I have my great-grandfather to thank for. The Niners, well, that was my dad's fault. He was always a huge 49ers fan when I was growing up. As far as my dad was concerned, Joe Montana was the greatest football player to ever step on the field. I can't argue with that. He wasn't into baseball, but that never stopped him from playing catch with me or even helping to coach my little league teams.

I stopped collecting football a few years back, but still wanted to keep up with the Niners somehow. That's why I decided to build a Frankenset. This is page one thus far, as you can see, I'm still needing 2 cards to finish off this page.

#1 - 1995 Score Steve Young
If not for Montana, Steve Young would be the greatest Niners QB of all-time. I remember Steve Young running the football like a running back would and never sliding. I also remember the time he caught his own pass.

#2 - 1990 Fleer All-Pro Jerry Rice
What can you say about Rice that hasn't already been said a million times over. The G.O.A.T., period.

#3 - 1990 Fleer Michael Carter
Carter probably wasn't a household name, unless you had Niner fans in your house. He was a great player though. Carter signed this card for me a few years back. You'll see some of my autographed Niner cards popping up in this Frankenset.

#4 - 2014 Panini Rookies & Stars Aldon Smith
Smith came in to the League and completely upped the game. Few could figure out how to stop him from getting to their QB's.

#5 - still looking

#6 - 1996 Pinnacle Zenith William Floyd
In the 80's and early 90's, the Niners had one of the greatest fullbacks to ever play the game, Tom Rathman. William Floyd picked right up where Rathman left off.

#7 - 2010 Topps Chrome Vernon Davis
I didn't expect much when VD was drafted, but to say he exceeded my expectations of him would be an understatement. Few could cover this guy at all.

#8 - 2009 Panini Threads Century Legends Joe Montana
Another guy that you really can't say anything about. Joe Montana was the man. It always seemed like he could do whatever he wanted to do out there.

#9 - still looking

I haven't decided how big I'm gonna make this Frankenset yet, but I have it paged out to 500 right now. I'm gonna add a wantlist to the top of my home page with all the numbers I still need cards for.

If you have any you think I could use, email me at leehero13@gmail.com.
I have tons of football cards I'm wanting to move anyway. Probably at least 300-400 count lots for every team including rookies, serial numbered, parallels and inserts. I have no Niners cards prior to 1989 and none after 2014.

  1. Sounds like your dad and my dad would get along. The only difference is I chose to not follow in his footsteps ;)
