Stranger'er Things and Other Horror Oddities

Everything old, will eventually be cool again. For years I witnessed vinyl records being discarded like they carried the plague or something. Now, it seems to be cool to own a record player and spin that vinyl. It was always cool with me. My dad buys early century phonographs and restores them. His house is a museum of the progression of recorded music.

Victrolas, Edisons, you name it, it's there.

My wife, the three kids and I are all huge fans of Stranger Things. To me, it brings back that innocence of being a kid in the 1980's all too well. Watching it conjurs up memories of my cousins, my friends and I going on all kinds of adventures.

We would ride our bikes all the way into the next town. No worries in the world about how we would get home, or even if we would get home. We didn't have to stop every 5 minutes to check our Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Snapchat / TikTok notifications either.

Anyway, we purchased the limited edition soundtrack for Season 3 of Stranger Things on vinyl and it is stellar! It included all kinds of extras, but had no mention on the outer packaging about this cool 6 card set that was hiding inside. TCDB doesn't have it listed either. I'm gonna have to send them some data.

While the fronts are amazing, the backs are... blank. Guess it's time I started on those Topps Stranger Things sets.

Next up, we have some exclusive trading cards that were packed in with Anchor Bay's single episode dvd releases of the first season of Masters of Horror. These cards floated around in the dvd cases with no protection, so pristine copies should carry a huge premium.

Argento is the legend of Giallo. Most of these guys I'm sure these would be the first cards made of them.

Coscarelli's Phantasm series terrified me as a youngster. I always heard the Tall Man saying "Boyyyyy" whenever I would lay down at night.

The men responsible for 2 of my favorite horror films, ReAnimator and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I never considered either of these guys Masters of Horror. McKee's May was really good though.

McNoughton is another one I wouldn't consider a Master. Although Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer was good. Miike on the other hand is Legend. Ichi the Killer, Gozu, Audition, Visitor Q. One of the most prolific Japanese filmmakers ever.

Just thought I would share some of this stuff with you guys. I'm always looking for more horror themed cards. I never found the Joe Dante or John Carpenter Masters of Horror cards. Those definitely are on my wants.

  1. Lots of cool stuff here. It’s impossible not to love Stranger Things. Those cards are so cool, with the fireworks in the background!

    1. Those fireworks set everything off. After flipping through the cards, the only thing that really disappointed me was the lack of cards for Billy and Robin.
